The Policy Debate on: “Local Multilateralism and City Diplomacy: Linking the Local to the Global” will question the core understanding, notions and mechanisms of governance that are currently in place and belong to the structure of the 20th century. At the top of the agenda is the necessity for local and regional governments and their networks to be at the heart of global decisions, bringing the voices of the local communities to decision-making tables, especially through the monitoring and contribution to the New Urban Agenda. Collective decisions and high-impact partnerships are essential components of the new governance architecture that we aim to start shaping in this debate through a local-global coalition. In order to reflect the views of all, we must continually ensure that all dialogue and decisions are inclusive and enhance ownership in the new multilateral system.
